History
Swedish settlers John and Mathilda Johnson grew fresh produce for the area’s summer residents, including apples and cherries, from the early 1900s. Limited grazing had replaced farming by the 1930s.
During the construction of Highway 74, the hillside collapsed, covering the back one-third of their house. They then lived in what was left of their home. John died in 1928 and Mathilda lived on her own for a few years as the land returned to its natural state. Open Space purchased the park in 1987.
