History
John Brisbane Walker acquired Mount Falcon and Red Rocks Park as part of 4,000 acres of property in the late 1800’s.
Early in the 20th Century he built an elaborate stone mansion with a commanding view of Denver and the plains below. He had a dream to build a western White House for U.S. Presidents to use so they could avoid the heat and humidity of Washington, D.C.’s summers.
However, a fire in 1918 destroyed the mansion and his plans for the western White House. The original 1490 acres of the Mount Falcon property was acquired by Jefferson County Open Space in 1974 from a private owner. The remaining 117 acres was added om 2009, using Bond Funds.
